Assassin's Creed nears five million mark

Assassin’s Creed has become the fastest selling IP in the US to date, having sold nearly five million copies to date since its launch only last month. This will be a huge achievement for Ubisoft’s 2007 to 2008 fiscal years that ends March 31, 2008.

Publisher Ubisoft says that Assassin’s Creed has had a “record performance” through the sales, making it "the fastest-selling new video game intellectual property in the US ever" the company said.

This is all without the PC version being released, which will see light next year. Furthermore, this does have to come as a wakeup call for Sony as Assassin’s Creed was originally a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Through industry back-alley deals, where lots and lots money is involved; Sony ultimately lost the exclusive to the Xbox 360 and eventually PC.

Assassin’s Creed is still holding firm on the PS3 and continues to help push hardware; however, just imagine if it were still a PS3 exclusive and the possible success this could have brought. No need to ponder in the past, just give Assassin’s Creed its respect and hope for the better in the future in regards to PS3 exclusivity.

Well, how many of these numbers ar from the PS3?   I don't know if these numbers help the argument that it should be PS3 only.

psn id: gingo.... ^ actually you are both wrong, assassins creed was once a ps3 exclusive but ken kutaragi refused to take it on board and help development because he didn't see its "selling value" or some crap like that so it wasn't all to do with microsoft dealings well in this case anyway

Yes, it should indeed be a wake up call to Sony. I like this game, even if the reviews aren't the greatest. Hopefully this means Ubisoft will be delivering more quality games to us in the future.

Don't you think its lame to live in the past Sarad? Can't contemplate the past, you can only look at the present and future outcome. Overall, Ubisoft is capitalizing on this game and people seem to generally like it regardless of what console is on.

Could Sony possibly think about making AC2 exclusive?  Should they get into talks with Ubi now? I THINK SO.

its only 2.5 million, quit misleading people.  And it only sold that many copies because it is for PS3 AND 360.

if this game were ps3 exclusive it wouldnt do a fraction of what it did.  and why the heck is this pile of rubbage selling so well, man mainstream people are ret4rded.  i wish we could go back to gaming being a small niche for us nerds.

I gotta say, didn't think it was going to sell that well, especially with it's mixed reviews.  Maybe a million but 5 dang, at least it's a new IP and not a sequel I say.

This game comes with a new type of playing experience, and for me it is one of the best games for this year.Infact every hardcore gamer shouldn't miss this one.About the ps3 exclusive issue I don't really care that much since the game seems to sell better on the ps3 than on the 360.Keep going Ubi, hope u deliver us some exclusives next time.

    • 9:16am GMT - December 15th, 2007

Not even Ubisoft predicted this game to sell this many this fast!  As for the sales figure, everyone else seems to know the real numbers...5million is what Ubisoft is predicting for the 2007/2008 sales figure, not the total right now! (wait till the pc gets it aswell).

the game is very repetitive no lie which can make it extremely boring but I must say it did get interesting towards the end. They definetly will have to put more innovation behind it if there is a next sequel for AC to do well, but I know ubisoft can do it.  They should implement the case of being able to change clothes and blend in with the crowd a little better. Use NPC's to be apart of your mission like distractions ( one idea is like starting a riot that would be nice.) or buying poison from a character and slipping it in the targets drink. Theres many possibilities they just need to get creative.
