Max Payne theatrical trailer releasedMany gamers would openly admit that a review score for a particular title has no real bearing on whether or not they will make the purchase. From a gamer’s point of view, a review score is nothing more than one writer’s own simple opinion, which does not by any means create a picture for how everyone will enjoy the game. From a business side however, things are different.
Publishers and even developers’ alike takes review scores very seriously. After all, it is their long hours of hard work that is being judged and to a certain extent; scores could actually sway some of the sales numbers in their favor or against them. Many would say that 2007 was a year that belonged to both Nintendo and Microsoft with Sony sitting in the backseat.
However, with titles such as Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank Future, Folklore, Unreal Tournament III, and Motorstorm, it is hard to see how many would think 2007 was a bad year for the PS3. For review scores in that year, it paints a very optimistic picture for Sony.
In 2007, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) had an average review score of 77.9%, which placed them in the #1 position for the year in terms of review score average.

This is remarkable for Sony as it shows that the company continuous improved over 2006 where their average review score was 73.8% in the #5 spot behind Nintendo, Capcom, and LucasArts. Even 2006 itself was an improvement, as SCEA had an average review score of 73.4% in 2005.
With many titles for the PS3 this year expecting to be possible candidates for Game of the Year, 2008 could allow for Sony to grow yet again in relation to their review score, possibly breaking 80%.

very intresting, cant believe its higher then Nintendo though :O WOWWWWW
i guess mario isnt cutting it like he us to. nintendo is it time......oh my i dont know if i can say it......TO INOVATE?!!?
psn id: gingo.... its common knowledge SCEA make great games but its surprising to see them at the top of the list but its credit to them
yeah and heavenly sword was really underrated on some sites that was a great game short but great
How the crap did EA get so far up the list?????? Ps well done Sony
Awesome to see. Is that including Lair? Cause if it does, then it should be even higher. Some of the reviews for that game were just straight up "ignant". Hopefully it will get revisited if they do give it the new control scheme.
funky. It's all about quality :D
Its quality over quantity for 1st party PS games. Microsoft had a mix of top games to mediocre ones. And with the amount of games Nintendo develop and Publish, i'm suprised to see them so high on the list as they have more bad gamesthan good.
Wow, no wonder I ended up buying so many exclusives in '07
Omg! That's really surprising! But, if you think about it, par example: Microsoft releases alot of rubbish games. Scea has been very selective so to speak with their games. No bulls*** from them.
EA? EA? come on. I know everyone hates them and im not someone who just brainlessly says what others say, but really ea should not be on top of that list. Ubi got what they wanted anyways cap and luc are doing pretty well and deserv what they got btw how many games to you have to make to get on that list i think SE would have done good job and ofc some others but SCEA and SCEJ dont count as one?
i knew that scea was going to be at the top because they've released a lot of great games at the end of the year like uncharted, ratchet, folklore etc...bur lucas arts one of the first....!? they haven't released one good game so far (the last one for me was battlefront 2).......and i can't believe epic is on the list jajaja disney won to epic jajajaja!
The lower the score the fewer games that particular company put out. it's hard to average more than an 8 when you put out 3 lack luster games. Sony pumped out atleast hafl a dozen 8 rated games, Nintendo pumped out a few games but few of them lived up to their "revolutionary" promise even though the system sold a billion units no one cares about the games because they sold more of them to non gamers than the people who might actually want to play the games they have. M$ puts out 2 games and one of them is Halo.
yeah thats what im saying 360 may have more games but alot of its shovelware and not near an innovative as sony's offerings wii is even worse but they expanded the market to non gamers which is good because what do you think those people who broke into gaming on the wii are gonna do when they want something more complex? buy something more advanced
I have to agree with a few people on this one. All I hear about is the Xbox 360 having more games, but more than half of the games out on the Xbox 360 aren't even worth the money and are crap anyways. Even though Sony may have less games (the PS3 came out 1 year later, so of course it doesn't have as many games) Sony always puts out quality games, and even though Sony's games in 2007 didn't break any sales records or whatever, they all were quality game titles. Some people say that Lair was a failure, but Lair only got bad reviews because of the mandatory Sixaxis controls. If there was an option to use either Sixaxis or the Analog Sticks for flight controls, I'm sure that Lair would have gotten a score of at least 8/10. I personally thought that Lair was a great game and loved it.
Video Game Reviews can really make or break a game and it's good to see that Sony got the best overrall game review score.
Can you say pwnage
I'll get Lair the moment I hear of an optional control setup.
Of course they got the highest average, how many friggin games did they release in the first place?
