Capcom CFO Kazuhiko Abe has confirmed that horror sequel Resident Evil 5 has sold a whopping five million copies worldwide since its launch in March 2009.
Abe said at the Reuters Global Technology Summit in Tokyo last week that combined sales of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game reached 4.4 million by March 31, with a further 570,000 copies shifted last month.
While this brings the total to 4.97 million units, the horror title is believed to have sold enough this month to push its lifetime sales margin past the five million barrier. At this rate, the game looks set to surpass Resident Evil 2 as the biggest selling title in the franchise to date.

@1 More proof that the world doesn't revolve around you...
Anyway, looks like the control scheme or change in tone (less survival horror) didn't stop people from trying it. And remember, it did get good reviews. I've never played any RE game besides the 1st on the PS1, but maybe I'll get this when it gets cheaper...

After playing the demo I was certain I wasn't going to buy RE5. I hated it, but one day I said what the heck and decided to give it a buy. I was hooked from the get go especially with the rewards that can be purchased with exp points and the trophies (All of which I got). I feel bad for bad mouthing it so much early on. It is one of my favorite games ever, just a bit to short and online matches can be a bit irritating because rules and whining players that boot you out of the room if you are winning more than they are.
That said, I can't wait for them to make some new DLC or an expansion for the story mode of the game. Some new game modes would be cool too. Most of all more rewards that are harder to get next time around.

People don't hate this game . i would say i was not a hugh fan of RE games , but after playing this game i am hooked. I will go back now and play the other RE when i get a chance.
The unlocks in this RE5 are solid the story line was intense and the game play although difficult at 1st you get used to it. its great great game

it's to bright to be a RE game, it has way way to many QTE's and on 1 level I thought I was playing Tomb Raider. This game is complete and utter crap imho and should not carry the name Resident Evil. Unless there is a major overhaul this is probably my last RE game seeing that it is now an action shooter. I won't even get into the nickel & diming DLC that Scamcom sells for all there games.

@18 That was phail.
This is certainly a good game, but I feel that it only sold because of the name. If it wasn't Resident Evil, then it would have sold less than 2 mil.

it deserves the sales. love the game and I'm still playing it now ^_^ trying to complete professional difficulty. Some design choices were lame like the machine gun boss, ndesu >_<
But, fighting against the main villain (as to not spoil anything for those still playing) was awesome. :D
