Ratchet & Clank to stay Sony exclusive

Sony will keep the Ratchet & Clank franchise as an exclusive for quite a while. According to Insomniac’s Bryan Bernal, Sony owns the exclusive rights to the popular series.

In an interview we posted earlier today, Bernal explained that “Sony owns the Ratchet & Clank property so it’s safe to say you won’t be seeing our heroes on Wii or Xbox 360 anytime soon.”

If you haven’t read the interview, check out the full transcript here. And, look for our review of Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time soon.

I'd say seeing Insomniac on 360 or Wii anytime soon is looking unlikely, so the idea their best known and most successful series that they don't even own the IP not going anywhere is pretty much a given.

This is just an extension of your previous interview. It's not news, you've just noticed that something you previously submitted could be passed of as a separate article. I anticipated this happening as soon as I read the interview.

Anyone that's read the interview - which'll be anyone that's interested in the Ratchet & Clank series - will've already read this. Therefore, the only people that'll be reading this are the people that've seen it in your interview already.

On that basis, you may aswell say that Uncharted will also remain an exclusive, just in case people have any doubts; after all, stating that Ratchet & Clank will remain exclusive but saying nothing of Uncharted is bound to cause some speculation...

@DeanoIV: Sony owns the entire Naughty Dog studio, so not only do they own every IP that they churn out, they own the brain talent behind the IP's, which is FAR MORE VALUABLE!

  33. DigitalBeast

    • 10:28am GMT - October 28th, 2009

@4 Wasn't the latest game also the last one for the series? Why would it even matter now? They maybe could do a R&C kart game if they could, but come on. Since the series is finished, at least the main games, then it isn't a huge thing anymore. If they do some sort of a super kart racer(or gravity ship...), then it could matter to make it exclusive, so it runs/looks better.
