No Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for PS3?

Posted on November 24th, 2007 at 04:56 EDT

A few days ago we reported that Ubisoft had revealed Rainbow Six 6 Vegas 2 with an expected release date of late 2008.

It was also reported that the title would make its way onto the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. However, it now seems as if the PlayStation 3 could be left in the dark with Ubisoft’s latest sequel.

This could possibly be a mistake on someone’s part, or it could be an indication to something else; regardless, the official Ubisoft website reveals that Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is only on the Xbox 360 and PC platforms, with no mention of a PS3 iteration.

Again, this could very well be just a programming error on Ubisoft’s part, but one cannot deny that the omission of a PS3 version on the site is rather conspicuous, especially considering the previous instalment was released on all formats.

Who knows, it will be a travesty if Ubisoft just totally forgot about the PS3 fanbase, but nothing is official yet. PSU will keep you updated on this once more becomes available.

Why wouldn`t they make a PS3 version of the game? It sold millions on both the PS3 and X360. This is probably a simple mistake, I hope. XD

Rainbow Six Vegas was excellent and I purchased the PC version and I will no doubt buy the next itteration on PC.

Whilst an omission of any content might be seen as bad news for the PS3 platform in reality I think most people in the gaming community prefer this type of tactical FPS game on the PC anyway. I dont see it as a loss. Had this artical been about Final Fantasy or other quality RPG leaving PS3 out - then yes, that would be loss.

I don't mean to be a d''k but this site really needs a rumor section for stories like this. This isn't proven true nor false so why make it news. Again I'm just being honest here but half of the news stories posted here seem designed to either piss off gamers or start a fanboy war. Just my thoughts.

Microsoft could be just simply signing cheques again.

This may be a mistaken on their part because by the end of 2008, there may well be more PS3's out there than 360's? In America it would be hard t say who will have the lead but on a global basis I would have money put down that there will be more PS3's by the end of 2008.

Aww well. I purchased the first one for my 360 it seems as if I will do so for the second as well. Besides after getting used to playing the first one on the 360 controler I do not see myself making the switch.

Ubisoft is dead to me. I first started to dislike them when I played FarCry and then RB6V on the PS3. They were never going to give us an update from the start, they wanted our money and that was it. They get the extra money from the Xbox online play. Goodbye Ubisoft.

man that's gonna be effed up yo. but remember EA owns some of ubisoft and we know their connection to M$ don't we now? This crap...... if its true....... is garbage and if we have to wait to get a ps3 version, i say ps3 gamers should boycott ubi$oft and ALL of their games and future titles! Wishful thinking, i know.... but it seems like the shafting of ps3 gamers will roll right in to 08. Don't hold yall breath yo...

Ubisoft is the creator of the splinter cell franchise ps3 owners dont need it. Since we have mgs franchise, Ubisoft is soley developing well exclusive games for the 360 its like they released the 1st rainbow six vegas on both platforms and now why 1?

I have a feeling it could be something to do with sony since how some companies are not friendly with sony i think thats why ppl say "ports" when games are multi-platform for the 360 since how 360 this generation is the number primary console to develope for which i find unfair.

I agree with you tom. I love this site but some of the stuff posted really isn't even news.  I could care less about this game, by that time you guys have any idea how many great games were gonna have? Now if it was being released next month or something then that would matter, but by then the PS3 will be pretty close to catching up to the 360 and it wont matter.

I thought the 1st one was good, but I tried toplay it after COD4, and you can see its trashiness. I was already going to skip part 2. Ubisoft sux anyways.

Thankfully, this rumor has been debunked by Ubisoft, who presented everyone with a portion of the official press release in their forums. It clearly states that they're "developing Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Vegas 2 for next-generation consoles and PC." So yes, that should include the PS3. 'whew'

I did a little research, and I got this so no need to complain, I will c you guys online on R6V2 in a few months!

EDIT: Look at the official Rainbow Six site guys, they have a link that says Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Just Announced! Click on it, the article says that it's coming to next gen consoles and PC. By next gen consoles, I'm pretty sure it means 360 and PS3, not 360 and wii.

Could I be wrong though? Is Ubisoft making Haze?

Ubisoft are PUBLISHING HAZE, not developing it.  It's Free Radical who are developing it.  I've been lucky enough to play 2 parts of it, both as MANTEL and as the Rebels.  I thought it was so much more fun as the Rebels :)

This is the press release guys:
"London, UK — November 20, 2007 — Today Ubisoft, one of the world’s largest video game publishers, announced that it is developing Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Vegas 2 for next-generation consoles and PC. Developed at Ubisoft Montreal by the same team that created the award-winning Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas, the highly anticipated sequel is scheduled for a March 2008 release. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is the sixth iteration in the wildly successful Rainbow Six franchise which celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2008 with more than 16 million units sold worldwide to date.

“Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas took the gaming world by storm in 2006 thanks to its technological advances and gameplay innovations,” said Yves Guillemot, president and chief executive officer at Ubisoft. “We are convinced that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 will remain a pioneer in the highly competitive first person shooter genre, bringing more of what Rainbow Six fans love to the table.”

The highly anticipated sequel to the winner of numerous awards, including IGN’s 2006 Best First Person Shooter and Best Online Game, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 will push the franchise to new heights by adding new gameplay features and even more stunning visuals. Players will encounter an intense solo campaign that uses new tactical possibilities in various locations around Sin City. As expected with one of the pioneer franchises for online multiplayer Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 will also break new ground in both co-op and adversarial modes, while providing unprecedented interaction between the solo and multiplayer modes. "

Take note for this line "developing Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six® Vegas 2 for next-generation consoles and PC" next-gen consoles, its going to be on PS3 don't worry, if it was Xbox360 only that line would read "Xbox360 and PC" and not how it actually is.

Hope this releaves some people.
