New Gran Turismo 5 Prologue details

Posted on July 26th, 2007 at 10:31 EDT

Kazunori Yamauchi, series producer for the multi-million selling Gran Turismo series, was recently interviewed in the latest edition of Japanese magazine Famitsu Weekly, where he unveiled further details on upcoming PlayStation 3 release; Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

We have compiled a list of details below for your viewing pleasure:

-A PlayStation Home icon will appear at the top of the menu screen; this allows gamers to drop in an out of the proposed “Gran Turismo Galaxy” by clicking on their respective icons.

-My Page: This icon will appear when you start the game, with Yamauchi adding that he’d also like to include a friend’s list in the final version. Also included on the My Page will be numerous background images of cities; you’ll also be able to determine weather conditions thanks to a weather forecast system in place.

-The game will include 2 online options: one with chat features, and one without.

-40 cars and 4 courses will be available, with each track containing a total of 8 different layouts. Several new courses present in the E3 trailer will be included.

-Cars and courses will not be featured as downloadable content in Prologue.

-According to Yamauchi, the game falls somewhere in between the GT and Arcade modes of previous games. By this, players are able to earn cash by winning races, allowing them to purchase new cars; however, you won’t be able to tune up your own vehicles in the game. Additionally, save data from Prologue can be carried over to the final version of the game.

-A total of 16 cars can compete in offline matches, with a predicted 12 cars during online matches. Lastly, the games controls will be available in two modes; ‘Normal’ and ‘Professional’, based on simulation engine and real-life car physics/behaviour, respectively.

PSU will have more details on the game as it breaks.

uh-um.... for those of you that makes a quick judgement on this game, does anyone of you understand the meaning of the word 'prologue'? because if you do, it'll explain everything. (me thinks this also a good way for them to test out the online capabilities before releasing the final version)

This is only a demo. Gran Turismo 5 is a different game. Prologue is a demo they are releasing to the PSN this year. The full game won't be out until 2008. There will only be 40 cars in the demo.

It could also be in introduction to a book, or game, or just about anything.

i don't mind the lower number of cars because i could give a %$#@ about driving a minivan or the friggen daimler benz motor wagon or what ever that was called. i can appreciate the scope of vehicles but i want fast cars that are fun to drive. it better have ALL the cool cars that are out. ie. gumpert apollo, ccx, gordon murray rocket, xbow, zonda f, etc.
