The NPD Group has unveiled the latest sales figures for the month of December 2007, with Sony issuing its own response to the numbers, stating it feels the company performed well given the circumstances, noting the best is yet to come.

Of particular note is the USD 74 million generated in hardware revenues attributed to the company’s PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 consoles, a figure that is claimed to have surpassed rivals Microsoft and Nintendo.

Elsewhere, it is revealed that the PS3 sold through 798,000 units during the month of December, while the PlayStation Portable and PS2 both sold approximately 1.1 million units during the same period.

On the software front, the PS2 version of Activision’s Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock sold a total of 2.7 million units from October – December 2007, with overall PlayStation software revenue generating USD 822 in December alone.

Finally, the following titles represented the PlayStation brand in the multiformat top 10 last month:

-Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock
-Madden NFL 08
-Call of Duty 4: Modern Warefare

Impressed with its results for the end of 2007, Sony now looks forward with confidence to an auspicious period through 2008.

798 thousand that sounds a step in the right direction... how much more than Xbox 360 was that?

I know that Wii would have sold a million easily. Just before Christmas I finaly ordered a Wii so that I could play a few games: Mario Galaxy, Nights, Samba De Amigo, No More Heroes, Trauma Centre and Super Smash Bros Brawl all look good. My copy of Super Mario arrived shortly after but what I can't believe is that I still have not recieved my console yet. WTF? There are no Wii's in Australia & the order books are full. Nintendo are really really succesful but at the sametime they are really screwing up.

I forgot what goal they were planning on..11 million by April? If these triple AAA title games hit that nitch for the PS3, its damn well possible. :)

PS3- 798,000 and the 360- 1.8 million        wow.  Hopefully for PS3 fans, 08 will be the year for them.  IDK though considering games like fable 2, GOW2, and too human.  Good luck PS3... you will need it....
