Midway selling off Mortal Kombat series

The Mortal Kombat franchise looks set to find itself a new home following the announcement that Midway is looking to sell off the venerable beat ‘em up series after nearly 20 years.
Having filed for bankruptcy last month in North America, the publisher is now looking for "execution of an asset purchase agreement for the sale of Midway's Mortal Kombat franchise assets,” according to documents published by NetDockets.
The publisher has set aside $3,755,000 USD in withheld employee payments for whoever manages to offload the rights, one of which includes Wheelman, recently snapped up by Ubisoft.
Here’s hoping the future’s bright for the classic fighting series. We’ll let you know of any developments as they become available.

It would be a real shame if EA grabbed this one.
It'll be interesting to find out what happens but I doubt anybody can make this work on next gen.
The best way forward for this game would be to release a port of the second edition for next gen console stores and then really shake it up into something formidable when they have more time. It seemed to work for StreetFighter although I'm not convinced that MK has any life left in it.

@4 You took my thoughts. EA is like the Wal-mart of the gaming Industry.
@16 That would be cool because Capcom would do the series justice and we could possibly get that Street Fighter vs Mortal Kombat game many of us have dreamed about for years.

capcom getting mk should be the best bet...
as said before, mk vs street fighter.... could it get any better?
or a new mk in sf4 style (but with good faces...) -

Capcom should TOTALLY buy it ! They did an awesome job of bringing SF4 back to its SF2 roots , while updating the graphics and all. They could probably do the same with MK ! Then they could have SF vs MK !

Hopefully no one buys it so the industry can see that if you have a dying horse you don't keep giving it medicine to get better

Wow this is interesting I wonder who will buy this. I always loved Mortal Kombat ever since I saw Sub Zero rip someones spine out.

It would be awesome if a Sony first party got a hold of it! That will never happen though, just wishful thinking. I really liked the 2D MK games. Since they went 3D, the only game that was even "decent" IMO was Deception. I bought Armageddon because of all the fighters, but it's not the best. Why is it so hard to have Shang Tsung and be able to morph into EVERY player? Judging by the way these games have been lately, I wish the 2D games were back. Give us back 8 different fatalities for each character, not the same 2! Or even one in some cases. Just my opinion.......

They should go back to Mortal Kombat 2 roots and not the comic stuff like the last game :/... I wanna see Fatality's on HD :x
