Factor 5’s mythical Dragon adventure Lair has managed to crack the Japanese top ten in its first week of release, entering the charts at number seven.
The game, released in late August in North America and Europe just last month, sold a total of 22,000 units for the week ended October 14, according to the latest figures from Media Create.
Reception so far has been mixed to say the least, though our reviewer thought it was a competent title, despite some notable flaws.
Lair takes places in a fictional world thwart with war and natural disasters. Two factions, Mokai and Asylians, are engaged in a heated conflict between each other, with player’s casts in the role of a knight named Rohn, a member of the Asylians elite dragon-riding force.
With the noble dragon at your command, Rohn must defeat the onslaught of Mokai forces by engaging them in intense aerial combat on the back of your gigantic winged beast, using whatever means necessary to overthrow the enemy.

ok i have one think to say.
if Lair is as good as they say then why didnt SONY realse a demo for it so that we can try it befor we buye it?
END!
I have Lair and it's pretty fun.
I do notice a few flaws here and there, and the controls take some getting used to, but after playing around with it, you should be able to get the hang of it. The bad reviews are inexcusable and only show the bias against the PS3. IMHO
At least Japan know a good game when they get one.
funny thing how japanese players can grasp the controls but the US cant... low attention span.
good to see it doing well in japan. im sure it did alright here in us but the reviews brought it down.
I would give lair a 90 percent game value. I thought the story was aright, the MUSIC WAS AWESOME, but the controls needed some work, and not so much the sixxasis but the targeting
The game is hardly the super suck fest most reviewers claim it to be. Apparnetly their heads are too full of cheeze whiz and make-believe to understand the controls
man, Lair is more than just awesome. IT was a friggin master piece.
The story wasn't that bad, betrayal is always an awesome thing. The music was EPIC, the sounds were very good, and the overall gameplay was awesome. Sure it can be slow at times, but when you get to the water snake level or even as far as the level where you defend the refugees, you're going to go "OMFG THERE TOO MUCH GOING ON!"
That would be hilarious if Japan made this game do really well. I can NOT understand everyone's negativity about it. I like this game, it's fun.
Americans are lazy bastards...
Don't mean it in a bad way...but damn.
still havent played it
LOL whats up with all the US hate? Any who glad the Japanese like it despite mixed reactions.
My score for lair is 7.5, nor less and not more.
@ scarecrowi:
No, the Wii has been selling here just fine. I personally just did not like the gameplay.
hmmm, American review sites get $800 in Halo merchandise then give Halo 3 a 9 or 10. The Wii realeases games that have you flailing your arms around like an idiot and yet they receive no bashing. Then Sony releases a game with good use of motion control + good graphics & an innovating game type, and everyone gives them the evil eye.
I could not get into it - I was a bit frustrated by this game controls too and gave up in the section with the castle with shooting eyes. I got through the door and just turned it off. But having said that I was probably not in the right mood & did not have much time.
I think when I have some holidays I might give it a second chance as I've heard that it gets better if you stick with it.
I'm glad that Lair is getting some respect! I would laugh my pants off if this title became a hit in Japan after all the trash reviews the american game media gave it.
I'm American and I played through Lair twice already, it has nothing to do with short attention span, it has to do with the fact that Sony dominates the market so media will dispise the company. Nintendo doesn't get as much flak because the remember the good-old days when nintendo did rule the market.
I think Lair was a great game and was underrated, however I don't listen to reviews anymore. If it looks like a fun game I'm going to buy it and keep an open mind to enjoy whatever it offers as far as gameplay.
Everybody used to be in love with Nintendo... until Sony came along. Then they realized they can do better, that there are more fishes in the sea. So they broke up with Nintendo to go out with Sony.
But Sony had a makeover, and after that, Sony made some KIND OF arrogant comments about itself... which led to an arguement about whats more important. Which eventually led to a breakup.
So now everybody's going back to their ex, Nintendo, in hopes of it being able to comfort them while they're hurt. All the while, they talk trash about their recent ex, Sony, to hide their pain.
But in time, they will remember why they left Nintendo. They will come crawling back to Sony to talk things out, make up, make out, and have babies... O_o
And that is the story of how the first hybrid Humanbot was born... The End
Factor 5 probably tightened the controls for the Japanese version.
psn id: gingo.... i have to say that lair hasn't been released in europe yet but when it does i might give it a try
