Weekly sales of Sony’s PlayStation Portable in Japan continue to lead hardware in the region for another week running, according to the latest data from Media Create.

The handheld sold 85,421 units for the week ended April 20, as Japanese consumers continue to snap up the machine on the strength of Capcom’s Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G.

Nintendo’s DS is in second place with 44,551 units sold, followed by the Wii, which shifted 44,241 units of hardware.

PlayStation 3 sales were down from the previous week, with Sony’s latest home console selling 7438 units, ahead of the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360, which sold 6454 and 1076 units each, respectively.

Stay tuned for more coverage on the performance of Sony hardware in the coming weeks.

North American numbers please. I don't think the PS3 is passing the xbox unfortunately, but I'd like to see those numbers if they're available.

The PS3 especially loves dust. Or is it that dust loves the PS3? I don't know, but I find myself cleaning the thing more often than anything else in the house. (Or maybe I just "baby" the PS3?)

I know you guys want to keep the news positive but we need numbers for NA and EU.  Just because Sony might not be leading in these regions doesn't make them unimportant.

It will be interesting to see how things will turnout for the xbox360 in june when Ninja Gaiden 2 is released.I am sure this is a strategic move by MS so that the release of MGS4 won't have any effect on the difference difference in sales between ps3 and xbox360.Let's wait and see.
