Infinity Ward says downloadable maps coming for COD4

Posted on February 4th, 2008 at 17:19 EDT

Activision has given a semi-formal announcement that you can expect to see new maps brought to you for Call of Duty 4 throughout the year in form of downloadable content. These new maps are both in development for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 console. Call of Duty 4 lead all games in units sold worldwide according to NPD and it comes as no surprise that Activision plans to continue the playing experience in this fashion.

With the recently announced user-created content contest revolving around COD4 and its map availability, it is nice to see that the development team isn’t leaving everything up to the fans. These new maps are going to be launching players into new global warfare zones all around the world.

“We’ve demonstrated our commitment to delivering the best multiplayer experience in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and that continues with our plans for new downloadable content,” explains Infinity Ward’s Community Manager, Robert Bowling. “We’re excited about the new maps, and the added gameplay variety, and we can’t wait to wrap things up and get online with everyone.”

There is no official date as to when to expect these additions to one of the better games released in 2007, however, PSU.com will keep you up to date as more info is given regarding release.

Editors Note:  This is a separate announcement from that of the contest being ran by Infinity Ward where users will create their own maps.

What I would like is the ability to actually choose the maps we play online, rather than just have one handed to us and then get to skip only one.

pft, doubt itl be free, prob be 2.99 like the resistance maps were, shaka, the game was a good 6 hours and has got by far the most extensive online playability for the ps3, best value for money! tho i would love a long story driven fps like resistance!

I think it will be charged for both consoles, but then its really a good way to continue making more maps if people were willing to pay. Of course they might as well make it free if the feedback is negative.

I'll be very surprised if they are FREE, But heres hopeing ! ! ! Night time, and a bit of jungle warfare would go down a treat, and breath fresh air into this absolutely rinsed game, must admit Im gettin little bored of it now, but at the same time it is in my opinion still the best game out at the minute. P.S... When the fek are we (U.K) going to be gettin that update that the damn yanks got months ago, Im still gettin sick of waitin 12 weeks to get a match, only to have the ruddy host end it as soon as it starts ! ! ! Sort it out ! ! !

It would be nice if they just fixed the stupid servers they have. i love how the game always disconnects when the host leaves. that was something that was supposed to be fixed months ago. nope....every night it is the same thing. my clan gets a 20-30pt lead and bam...room shuts down. i am all for new maps don't get me wrong but just fix the problems with the game that we already know....and how about less grenades. 3!! are you serious! that is way too many. add two m203s to that and you have 5 grenades. make it 1 and be done.

i don't play often online but when i do i can't stop, not having extra map's doesn't bother me but if they are free than i'll certainly get them but if not i'll just pass and stick to the old ones

I think that they should be free, the original game itself is short and the maps patheticly small (Insomniac need to give them a few tips) were as with resistance the game itself was a lot longer and had more maps from the off so when they did release more maps i didnt mind paying to extend the games life. Its almost as if they do it on purpose to eek more money out of the punters, and whos to say they arent, its easy to deny as far as the devs are concerned. Extra content in my opinion should be a thanks to the people like you and me who have gone out and purchased their product for fourty quid a pop. Lets also take into consideration that also with bluray and its capacity there are no excuses in terms of not being able to fit all these maps onto the disc, and yes i know that these maps take time to create and time is money but really however good this game is. it is short and has a small number of relativly confined maps.

tbh i doubt they'll be free, their probably using this as a way opf making more money etc,  but i hope they are =D. ive also heard thatamericnas can now only play americans, and europeans can only play europenas, hopefully this isnt true, because my whole alliance is american except for me =p and i know this is off topic but is it true that the american online version is 1 second faster than the europeans? it miht not sound a lot faster but its the difference of them seeing you and killing you before you see them, just thought i'd ask =]
