The format war has had some twists and turns, but it has certainly gone on longer than anybody expected due to some fierce competition from both sides (as well as some deep pockets).
Along come Warner Bros' Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, arguably the biggest HD multi-format release this year. On Amazon.co.uk, the movie is making a large impact, leading the sales chart for both formats. However, Amazon has also consolidated HD sales into their regular movie sales, which gives us a comparison in performance of the two formats. As of earlier today, the Blu-ray version is holding the 105 spot, while the HD-DVD disc only managed to climb to number 321 on the overall sales chart.
So it seems that Blu-ray is currently leading in sales of blockbuster titles like Harry Potter. However, we can't be sure that'll mean a thing until the HD movie market achieves mainstream success. All Sony knows is that thousands of Blu-ray players entering people's homes everyday in the form of the PlayStation 3 can't hurt. We'll have more from the format war soon.

Blu-ray All The Way
to win they should release star trek and star wars on bluray
Star Trek wouldn't happen since Paramount still owns the rights to it. Star Wars is likely though, since it is fox. I think we need Jurassic Park. This would be a big move since it is licensed by Universal, which has no plans for blu-ray, but Steven Spielberg owns the rights to it. If Universal sees how much it would sell on blu-ray, then they may convert.
@smiter Star Wars would be awesome and definitely a seller for BluRay! Somebody go tell Ruper Murdoch!
psn id: gingo... the war lasted about 3 months to be honest before blu ray started killing hd dvd its over now and we should be concentrating on games now more than if blu rya is going to win or not
"However, we can't be sure that'll mean a thing"....Dude!....That's big hOle on the wall, a major iMpAcT. hmm idk 'bout you.
Sweet! Blu - Ray for the win!!!! :)
The rank of sales doesn't mean as much to me as absolute sales volume.
Die already HD die!! HD is like a fish out of water any day now and it will be over.
Well I think what might put a major blow to the HD-DVD camp is when not just major studios putting out special deal with trilogies going on blu-ray, but also tv networks releasing seasons of animation, drama, etc on blu-ray as well.
My friend Alex constantly says HD-DVD owns blu-ray even though he doesn't even have the hd-dvd addon for the 360 and I've already bought 9 blu-ray movies and I'm loving them compared to my bro's HD-DVD. You can really notice the quality in transformers hddvd compared to spiderman 3 blu-ray
Will this war ever come to an end
