GTA IV to shift more PS3s than 360s, says analyst

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has said that he expects Rockstar’s upcoming Grand Theft Auto IV to shift more PlayStation 3 hardware than Xbox 360s.
Speaking to Reuters, Pachter commented, “If sales come in at the high end of that range, the game will directly spur sales of 2 million additional PS3s in 2008, versus 1 million Xbox 360s.”
“I think PS3 ‘wins’ this battle,” he added.
Similarly, BMO Capital Markets analyst Edward Williams observed that many consumers who bought into the series on PlayStation 2 are likely to see GTA IV as a reason to upgrade to Sony’s latest home console.
“So many people who owned the PS2 went into PlayStation family because of ‘GTA’. The release of ‘GTA4′ could expedite their decision to upgrade,” said Williams.
Grand Theft Auto IV is due out worldwide on April 29.

This is true for, what I believe, one major reason. Pirated version. I know of at least one person that has the game already for the other side. So for this fact I can't wait to see the numbers and hope Rockstar regrets their decision to ever move over to the competition. HUGE slap in the face to those that gave them the start.

Well considering the 360 has been out a year longer than the PS3 this really isn't surprising. Most people who wanted a 360 already have one, and aren't going to buy another one when GTA IV comes out. PS3 is still catching up in terms of install base.

GTA III was the reason i bought a PS2, and GTA IV was the reason i bought the PS3. it was announced for the next gen systems before the PS3 was even out. i've already purchased GTA 4 like a year and a half ago and been waiting for it to release since then. CANT WAIT, CANT WAIT, CANT WAIT.

Yeah I wouldnt bet on L.A. Noire anymore, if EA is successful with the buyout, say goodbye to that exclusive. its all REFLEX's fault.

I played the game last nite on my buddys xbox , its pretty much everything you expect, gotta be truthful I just want something new instead of rehashing this thing over and over............... Im on a constant wait till MGS4 ~~~!!!

I'm not overhyped about this game, I'll get it sooner or later though. And yes EA have made a few good games, I like battle for middle-earth for example. Right now I'm more hyped about haze and mgs, and after that i'll be hyped about R2 killzone2 and MS2, I've never been a big GTA fan anyway.

Well on Friday i was at my local Gamestop where a good friend is the manager. He told me at 1 pm that he had 394 pre orders for GTA in both platforms and when he printed it out the total was 201 on the 360 and 193 on the PS3 if you ask me thats pretty damn close considering the user base in a magor city such as mine in Dallas Tx. I am not saying the PS3 will out sell the 360 version kinda would be hard to do, but as for the user base as of today i find these numbers pretty revieling don't you? He also stated that in the last week he had 9 i repeat 9 360's traded in for a PS3 i was shocked not only did he say that but he also said that he has more 360's in stock then the PS3 when it usaully is the other way around. So this article may just have some truth to it. We will see next month with the NPD numbers even though i think this wont really reflect until May's numbers are posted and we all know June and July will reflect a big total from MGS4 bundles and sales. So in close the next 3 months will tell us so much either it will push thousands of units or it wont.
