The Harmonix-Neversoft drum war officially begins
SCEE confirms two new PS3 bundlesIn late November we reported how Blacksite: Area 51 manager, Harvey Smith described the development process of Blacksite as “F***ed up”. Full details can be read here.
Well, we can now reveal to you that Smith is no longer with Midway, with details surfacing this week that he has parted ways with the firm. It is unknown if he was fired as a result of his outspoken words described above, or whether he chose to leave on his own accord. All we know for certain is that Smith is no longer with the company.
Smith has yet to announce what avenue he will be pursuing next; however, as some may know, he was the lead designer on Deus Ex, which is known as one of the best PC shooters ever released. With that in mind, we could possibly see him head towards the Deus Ex 3 project being over run by Eidos in Montreal.
At least Harvey Smith spoke his mind and was honest; the industry needs more people like him.

It's unsurprising, either way. If he left of his own accord, it's unsurprising because he must have been disappointed with the way things were run. If he was fired, well, that's hardly surprising either, after such an outspoken rant!
OMG!!! first GAMESPOT and now MIDWAY.. is everybody getting fired for something bad said about a game... :S
'At least Harvey Smith spoke his mind and was honest; the industry needs more people like him. '
agree...:))
At the end we "gamers" are the judge of Blacksite. Will see!

I second that :p
psn id: gingo... it was inevitable that tihs guy was gonna leave or get fired becasue he was clearly unhappy with development and the company wouldn't take those comments too lightly
I think with that statement he actually bashed the Unreal3 engine. Under Epic's NDA, he isn't allowed to say anything bad about the engine or Epic. (or will get sued for millions).
Midway licensed U3E for $ millions, and Epic gave them just crumbs of the code, that weren't even working! And Epic's tech support has been nowhere to be found, with a phone-secretary message like a surfer mumbling "yo, Josh is so not here". lol It's such a major fraud, yet you can't tell anyone - you can just take the blame. The only way to spread the info was done via a lawsuit.
I wonder if in a few days or months Smith will be unbound by that NDA and speak freely the whole picture.
imho, Epic has done a huge misnomer to the PS3 community - 6+ delayed games, 3+ cancelled (forever) PS3 games, stealing money from PS3-exclusive developers to make their x360 GeoW, subpar networking code for PS3...
It would take a dozen UT3-class AAA games to make-up for the damage they've done to us.
Also, the funniest thing is that the U3 engine doesn't easily surpass what other developers whipped for just a few months LOL .
Midway sucks anyway
Yamota where u get ur info on all dat? I think Epic is doing a good job I could really care less about the higher powers of Midway. As long as Epic continue to support PS3 the way they are I could care less about some effects of some guy gettin fired or walking due to some decent of half as game.
Honesty is STILL the best policy, especially to consumers!
AWESOME bro, we need more honest people like him. I'm glad he doesn't set his standards to the point of EA.
He got FIRED. And with just cause. If he wants to get onto the press and talk $h*t about a game that hasnt even been released yet, and basically criticise the company then of course they're gonna sack him. I would too. Its one thing to tread lightly and keep your mouth shut until the reviews start coming back in and approaching it carefully, its another to just go out and blantantly criticise your own work just because you couldnt make the deadline.
Not surprised, with the lack luster scores and disappointing feedback its not surprising.
